If you ever wondered how small businesses could benefit from Twitter, this might be the solution.

TwitterHawk is a start-up that aims to provide a targeted marketing solution for small businesses through twitter.

How does it work?

TwitterHawk says:

Let’s say you just opened a new coffee store in Queens and wanted to let people know about it. As part of your advertising efforts, you could setup TwitterHawk to search for things like “coffee near:Queens within:8mi” (of course you could simply search world wide if you are global).

TwitterHawk would then periodically (at a frequency determined by you) find twitter posts that mentioned coffee by users that are actually located within 8mi of Queens, and send them one of your pre-defined replies from you such as
‘@cracksh0t Have you seen our new Coffee Shop in Queens?’ or
‘@loxly What is your favourite blend? We’ve just opened a new store in Manhattan and would love to know what you think’

How Much Does This Cost?

Free.

Visit TwitterHawk site for more information.

What do you think about the service?

Upgrade PHP Version On Godaddy

February 2, 2009 · Filed Under Tech Tools · 3 Comments

On a godaddy hosting, you have two versions of PHP language to choose from PHP 4.0 & PHP 5.0.

When you create a database to install an application, you are asked to choose a version.

Why do you want to upgrade PHP?

Some applications run only on the latest version of PHP and give an error message when you try to install. Ex: lifestreaming software Sweetcron

See a demo on my lifestream (alpha version): A web & ecommerce strategist’s lifestream

How to upgrade?

First, log into your account:

• Go to the Go Daddy Account Login Page
• Log in using your account username (which may be the same as your customer number) and password

Once logged in, follow these steps:

1. Log in to your Account Manager.
2. In the My Products section, select Hosting.
3. Next to the hosting account you want to modify, click Manage Account.
4. In the Content section of the Hosting Control Center, click the Languages icon.
5. Select PHP version you’d like to set as the default.
6. Click Continue.
7. Verify the listed changes, and then click Update.

Your Language change will be submitted and takes upto 24 hours for the change to be processed by the hosting server.

NOTE: Although PHP 5 is the most current version, many applications still require version 4. Therefore, making this update may cause some of your PHP files to run incorrectly.

Would appreciate any comments and feedback about my lifestream blog, web2mom’s blog posts or just about anything :)

Smiles,
ShriNagesh :)

How To Identify And Delete Inactive Friends On Twitter

Often, social media users create accounts and for some reason, stop updating or using their profiles. While this is not the best practice, the most popular reason cited by people is lack of time.

These three tools are very useful and each have their own unique features.

MyCleenr

If you’re looking for a simple way to delete inactive accounts that you’re following, MyCleenr is the best (as long as you’re not following over 700 people). MyCleenr provides you with a simple overview of those that you are following on Twitter and the last time they tweeted. From there you can either click the “delete” button or leave them as a friend. Clicking the delete button will have MyCleenr automatically unfollows them for you. As simple as that.

This tool is especially useful, if you are yet crack your twitter 2K wall. Identify and unfollow the inactive users and make room to add active friends.

FriendOrFollow:

Friend or Follow allows you to segregate your twitter network into three categories.

  1. Those who follow you and whom you follow back = Friends
  2. Those whom you follow but don’t follow you back = Following
  3. Those who follow you and whom you don’t follow back = Fans

With this kind of segragated information, it becomes very easy for you to clean your twitter profile.

Twitter Karma:

@Dossy’s Twitter Karma (not twitterkarma.com) is a cool way to view your twitter network on a comprehensible interface. The tool analyzes your Twitter account and brings up a list of users you follow, users who follow you, and makes it easy to see whether you have a reciprocal or one way relationship with each.
This tool gives you an option to mass follow / unfollow.

Warning:

  1. All are third party tools
  2. There have been instances of erratic results
  3. Except friendorfollow, the other 2 tools ask for your twitter password

You’ll need to give Twitter Karma your username and password to let it do its stuff. But the same can be said for most Twitter desktop applications, so you’re always taking a leap of faith when you decide to trust anybody that’s not Twitter with your login information

# Bonus Tip:

To check if someone is following you, visit their profile page and on the sidebar, under the Actions, you should be able to see “message username” and “block username”. If they are not following you, you would only see “”block username”.
