Today is the final day of the experiment I’ve been doing for four days.

This month’s Experiment: Stop reading blogs. If you want to read about the experiment from the starting, here are the links.
Day 1; Day 2; Day 3

Conclusion:

My productivity increased by 70%:

    Tangible proofs:

  • I wrote 18 posts in this blog,
  • Designed and launched 2 more web templates on templatefair.com
  • Submitted 3 articles on 4 article directories
  • Posted comments on pro blogs
  • Joined some communities and improved my social network group
  • Found a mentor
  • and my blog stats show that I had the highest number of visitors in these last 4 days than in the last 4 months I started this blog.
  • Chalked out a step by step plan to improve and market my websites

It has been an enlightening period:

    Intangible Corollaries

  • I’m not confused or bewildered with all the contradictory info available on the net.
  • Feel more confident
  • I’m able to peruse the prospects more logically because I know things are going to work

Won’t I read blogs in the future:
Ofcourse I will read. But a selected few. I unsubscribed to 32 RSS feed of the 50+ I had. The remaining feeds include 4 pro blogs on IM, 5 on web design stuff, 4 IM news and rest are misc like CNN, BBC, Times etc. I’ll utilize the most unproductive time of my day for reading other blogs in the bookmarks.

Time to Implement
Read only as much as you can implement and utilize. If you are looking for basics, choose a blog which caters for the needs of beginners. Don’t try to learn rocket science with the intention you might one day after 100 years would get to handle a rocket.

Today is day 3 of my experiment.

My experiment: The impact on productivity by minimizing or completely avoiding blog reading.

Advantages:

1) I am way ahead with my blog posts.

2) I am able to think more creatively

3) I am more focused.

4) I’m not bewildered by the insane amount of info on the net.

5) I could chalk out a plan and figure out candid answers for some how?’s.

Tomorrow will be the last day of my experiment and I’m glad I did this. I will post my inferences & conclusions by monday afternoon.

Results after 24 hrs of “Lab Rat” experience.

My experiment this month: “I stopped reading blogs for 4 days”

Read more about the experiment here.

I subscribed for 58 RSS feeds from many pro blogs in my niche and few other fields that interest me. If a day starts with scanning at my RSS feeds, and clicking on most interesting ones (approx 10). I read (ok…coup d’oeil) at least 90% of them. As I mentioned earlier, these are pro-blogs, masters of interlinking posts and luring title writers. If I start clicking 2-3 more links from each post from 5 blogs, that takes my blog reading count to 9+(5*3) = 24 posts.

If you think that is a small number, then you haven’t calculated time spent on each. Apart from the time it takes to read a post, you must include time to read comments, page load time, noting points, commenting on blogs, clicking on recommended websites, assimilating info … and getting back to normal if all this bewilders you.

Finally Day1 Results of the experiment: In the last 24 hrs, I launched a new set of templates based on theme “healthy eating for kids” on my template store , posted 3 blog posts which have been drafted and were awaiting proofreading. :) Kiddin’

Reading blogs is addictive. If you are following pro blogs in your niche and subscribed to their RSS, then chances are that you spend great number of hours reading others blogs.

Oh, it is a great way to acquire knowledge, learn strategies, find products, get inspired, network and so on. My profession has nothing to do with my university Master’s. You will laugh your heads off, if I tell you that I studied Microbiology and Genetic Engineering.

90% of what I learnt and what I am is through net surfing. Rummaging down to the deepest cores of google and assimilating, manipulating is my passion. (My husband says, I’m obsessed :D , and my 7 year old son called me ‘Net crazy’ in his little blog :D D .. hee widest grin).

After all this surfing, rummaging, assimilating, manipulating… comes the main process called as “Implementing”. This is where i’m getting stuck when I continue to do the other steps in the process.

The more I keep reading, the less I get time to implement what I know.

And there is another little problem, I get bewildered when I shift from one pro blog to another.

So here I make a Vow, “I will not read any blogs ….. till Monday” Hee can’t avoid them forever. Today is Thursday. I’ve got 4 days to spoof myself as a lab rat and see how this changes my day schedule, my blogs worth and ultimately my blogging career”.

Who wants to become a “co-lab rat” ?? :)
