Goals are like map while hitting the unfamiliar road. They direct you to your destination.

I have a vision and I approach it step by step using shor-term goals. When I meet one goal, I set another reasonable goal I can achieve, IF i work hard. This allows me to visualize exactly where I want to go and I focus on getting there. As i reach those goals, I gain more confidence and motivation to move forward. When i’m stuck, I don’t hesitate to ask for help. It’s like a “Treasure Hunt”.

Some Great Quotes About Goals:
The tragedy in life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach.” –Benjamin Mays

“By recording your dreams and goals on paper, you set in motion the process of becoming the person you most want to be. Put your future in good hands — your own.” –Mark Victor Hansen

If mentors told you this before, i’m sure they did. But nobody ever told you HOW TO. So here is an archetype of a blogger’s goal.

So What is your blogging goal?

If you have a strong positive answer and are pretty sure about it, then ignore this post and move forward to achieving your goals.

But if you don’t have set goals yet….this IS the first step. List down your long-term & short-term goals. Long-term probably for a period of 6-12 months. And short term goals for a month.
(Note: Your goals must be achievable, small, next step goals).

Hi Shri, I really appreciate this sheet as way of thinking about goals/objectives for my blogging activity. I am still a blogging newbie and don’ t even know how to get most of the information yet, but this post lets me know what infofmation I *should* have about my blogs. ONce I have and understand it I will be better able to set SMART goals about my blogging – THanks!

    Tamo
PS I don’t know what “Dt” (“as on Dt”)

  2. Shri on September 14th, 2008 2:32 pm

    Hi Tamo,

Glad u find it useful. There are some free software like Link Buzz, GoodKeywords etc, that’ll be useful to get some statistics about your site.

    Good luck :)

    @Tamo:
These are great areas to look at. I personally use Google Analytics which offers up similar (but slightly) different statistics about my blog. The important thing though is to understand what affects the statistics and then choose to focus on those that are important to you.

For example, my Alexa ranking is way down in th 10,000,000,….s. I’m not going to worry too much about increasing this slightly.

On the other hand, my “time on site” is under a minute. This tells me some people aren’t reading my articles fully. This is something I can work to change.

I’ve posted a more detailed response over at the Budding Bloggers network (link in main post).

P.S. I think Dt = date. ;) took me a while as well.

Sorry for confusing you with “Dt”. Stands for Date.

I learnt “character conservation” on twitter. Now it seems to be running in my blood. If I don’t act now, my 7y/o will have to help me proofread blog posts.

Sorry about that. Henceforth, no twitter lingo in blog posts.
