Power Twitter, a plugin for Firefox web browser that greatly enhances twitter.

Twitter pages now include:

  • Photo sharing with embedded flickr photos
  • Video sharing with embedded youtube videos
  • Shared tinyurls are unwound so you know where they link to

  • Additional user information is mapped to twitter users thanks to data conduits via 30 Boxes (e.g. flickr accounts, blog posts, del.icio.us links, and tons of other social media!)

The results of your social media networking depends on what you want to achieve with the time you invest on social media. If you have specific objectives, chalk out a plan before you get started.

Try to answer (as candidly as possible) why, how, when…to use twitter or other social media?
Why do you want to use twitter?
What are your prime objectives?
How are you going to achieve those objectives?
When or how often are you going to tweet?
What are you going to tweet about?
Which twitter tool would help stay connected without wasting your time?

Here are tips on building your brand identity.

  1. Choose an intriguing username/niche username if you are beginning to build your brand identity through twitter. Some ideas to get you creative: SEOpro, Photojunkie etc. One cool tool you can use to check if your username is available in multiple social media is http://usernamecheck.com.
  2. Add you real name in your profile.
  3. With loads of spammers lurking twitterverse, you ought to look human and genuine. Add a genuine, powerful, captivating, intriguing yet simple one liner bio.
  4. Give a link to your website/blog where people can get more relevant information.
  5. Upload a professional or interesting twitter background under the “Design” tab with short bio.
  6. Demonstrate to your followers that you are the most informational person in your niche.
  7. Build credibility among followers that you can help them achieve their goals.
  8. Have a voluntary following.
  9. Communicate often and encourage two way communication.
  10. Understand your strengths and weaknesses and work on the weaker corners.
  11. Appreciate your followers when they share a tip, answer your question or retweet your tweet.
  12. Be dialectical but not combative.
  13. Don’t make your twitter stream look like your blog’s RSS feed.
  14. Don’t tweet about incidents that can be detrimental to your personal & brand reputation. You might want to use a personal (private) twitter a/c to log/share personal info.
  15. Give free informative tweetips and include direct links to tools and other useful resources.
  16. Occasionally, search on Google, Technorati or other search engine using niche keywords to find latest niche trends and interesting links and tweet about them.
  17. Use PollDaddy for Twitter to create a weekly (or monthly) summary (or “Twitter Roundup”) of your best tweets of the past week.

  22. Pull your twitter stream into your blog and other social media profiles like friendfeed, facebook and myspace.
  23. Sync your ezinearticles account with twitter by adding your twitter account details in ezinearticle profile. When your new article is published on ezinearticles, an auto tweet will be sent out with a link to your article. Another advantage is, all ezine expert authors with twitter accounts in their profiles are listed out at http://twitter.ezinearticles.com. (I’m in top 50  )
  24. Don’t smell spammy and get your account suspended. Check out rules at http://twitterhelp.blogspot.com/2008/08/suspended-accounts.html
  25. Final Word: Think of the long term. Create a voluntary following and retain it with quality info. ‘Follow’ or ‘Unfollow’ takes only a split second and is usually impulse action.
